enough sufficient does not = arrive about a month ago i was in the 'magazin' to purchase food for the few days ahead. i'm a huge fan of salam here in romania because they have soooo many types and i like to try all of them. so here's what happened....

me: buna ziua!
vanzatoare: buna ziua! poftiți?
me: aveți salam sibiu?
vanzatoare: da
me: bun :) dați-mi va rog un sfert kilogram

vanzatoare starts to slice the salami....when she has near to the amount i requested, she asks me.....

vanzatoare: vă ajunge?

i look at her stupified and say....

me: doesn't ajunge mean to arrive?
vanzatoare: da....

well of course this makes sense in someway - have you arrived at the amount that you would like? but my mind was stuck on an image of someone arriving at the train station or airport....

so the lesson is that there are other forms of ajunge

a ajunge = to arrive (eu ajung, tu ajungi, etc.)

a-i ajunge = to be enough/sufficient (îmi ajunge)

a-i fi de ajuns = to be enough/had enough (mi-e de ajuns)

still i have to say i really didn't get it until i read it in my textbook and then spoke with one of my teachers about this.  ¶ 5:50 p.m.
