Prepositions - în, la, de
i often have some troubles with prepositions. some are simple and some well are complex. so this entry isn't trying to explain all the rules for în, la and de. instead it's about something that i noted and was confused about....so let me digress for a moment...
One of the first things you are taught when studying this language is the phrase" Îmi place _______ = i like_______.
Someone asks you
Îti place _______?
simple response
Îmi place _______. OR Nu îmi place _________.
Well here's where my confusion was with în. The following statements, mean two different things.
Îmi place România. = I like Romania.
Îmi place în România. = I like to stay in Romania.
The în implies staying in the place noted. Simple but I just didn't know the difference. Now about la and de...
Îmi place la voi. = I like your place. (apartment, house, room, etc.)
Îmi place de voi. = I like you.
